  • I haven't driven the car a whole lots since I replaced the inner tie rod end but the installation was easy and everything fit. The look is nice(not that you really see it but mentally you know it's there and looks good). I put average for the handling improvement becasue I didn't have bad handling before I replaced them, they were getting loose but not where I could feel it in the steering. I replaced my outer tie rod ends also with the product from AM and that went well as well and did both at the same time. Excellent rating well earned by AM. Keep it up!

  • The inner tie rods are not simple to replace. The 2005/2006 Service Manuals do not show a way to repair the inner tie rods and the only fix was to replace the steering rack. But since around 2007/2008, Chrysler issued an update how to replace the inner tie rods. See this link for the instructions.

After putting it in the right spot, tighten the jamb nut. This is an excellent procedural writeup for replacing the outer tierod, which would be the first step required when replacing the inner tierod; which was my original question.

This was the first time I've ever done inner tie rods and this tool worked great. Although it may have been possible to remove and replace the inner tie rods by other means, I like that this tool allows the use of a torque wrench to tighten to spec. I used the 1 1/4" size. It takes less than a minute to loosen or tighten the inner tie rod (when you get to that point).

4. What needs to be considered when replacing the inner tierod so I do not have to get a new alignment? I found a hint/trick on this forum when I replaced the outer tierod (mark and/or count the number of threads required to take off) and it worked perfectly. Is it as simple as count the number of threads to take off outer tierod, remove and replace inner tierod (as long as they are identical lengths) and reinstall outer tierod to the corresponding number of threads?
